Gibsons working goats

new home

Paul and Gill, the happy new owners of 6, Redeemer's Garden Cashmere goats.

the property and view!
Last month we had the privilege of sending some of our goats to work in Gibsons BC. They have the most amazing piece of property to live, work and play on. Ocean-front beaches, forest, crystal clear creek running through and owners who are crazy in love with them. Their 'job' is to clear about 10 acres of land, which has all kinds of vegetation. It is a huge smorgasbord of grasses, weeds, trees and shrubs including their favorite, blackberries. For some great pictures, see, www.gibsonsgoats.ca

Roadside stand:

At Redeemer's Garden roadside stand and egg fridge, we operate on the honor system.  This provides a convenient service for people. However, it can only work as long as people act in an honorable way. Yesterday, someone, or more than one person, took $53 worth of food product. If this continues, the stand will have to move and only be available when someone is here to serve customers.  At first I was very angry, wanting God to 'get' them. Then hurt and disappointed in whoever this was. But God whispered in my heart's ear, 'bless those who curse you, do good to those who do evil to you, forgive and love your enemies....'  I admit, this wasn't something I wanted to do at first and am still struggling with, but as I surrender my emotions and will, the peace of God returns to my heart. And I trust Him to heal the pain as well.
If the person(s) who has done this reads this, I say this to you.
"You are forgiven and loved. What you have done is not right and it will steal the peace in your own heart, but there is a remedy for that. Perhaps you have never known peace in your heart, so you have no idea what I am talking about. You may think you have gotten away with this act, but you can't run and hide from yourself. The way to peace is to turn from evil and allow the Prince of Peace to wash you clean, and become a child of the Heavenly Father. I may never come in contact with you, but if we do, I will treat you with respect. I am willing to enter into a dialog with you and lead the way to the Prince of Peace if that is your desire."

Heirloom Tomatoes & other Veggies

Heirloom tomatoes are ripening and hopefully will be available for sale by the end of the week or beginning of next week. Potatoes and Garlic are now ready. Also coming soon, cucumbers, zucchini, and basil. Hope to see you here soon :-)

Thank-you to all who visited us on the Slow Food tour.

We had a great time with all the visitors who came to our place from the slow food tour. Many cups of blueberries were enjoyed, as well as the tasting of the heirloom tomatoes. Tangerine was the favorite by many people.

A closed gate

We love serving our customers. Some of our produce is available on a self-help basis. This is found in the roadside stand.
Other things require our presence, like berry u-pick and things that need to be weighed. I am almost always onsite, however there are times when I am not available and the gate is closed for this type of business.
When the gate is closed, you have some options. You can honk your horn and if I am around, I will come and see if I can help you. Or you can call me @ 604-819-4339. I have my phone on me most of the time. However there are times when I am not available, and you will have to wait for another time to contact me.
Climbing the gate is not an option. We cannot be held responsible for you, if you happen to fall or get bit by one of our dogs. Not only can entering a place in an inappropriate way be dangerous, it is also very rude. I would never enter you personal space in that way.

BLUEBERRIES are now available for u-pick.

My it has been a long time since I have posted anything.
Much has been going on here at Redeemer's Garden. All of the available doelings have been sold, some of the bucklings found their forever homes too, and the rest have gone to the auction. Still available, are two bucks. Contact me for more info if you are interested.

In the garden side of the farm, tomatoes are growing like crazy. The rest of the veggies are a bit on the slow side.

WOW Quads!!!!

I thought yesterday was a busy day, We had 8 kids drop. Today was even busier, 11 kids, and definitely amazing. We topped it off with a new mom dropping quads!! Yikes. 2 were on the very low end of normal and 2 were absolutely tiny. 1.8 lb. and 2.25 lb. So lots of encouraging to nurse needed. Poor mom, she couldn't even stand up for a couple of hours. Fortunately we were able to put one of the kids on a mom who had lost her kid to help carry the load. We pray they all make it through the night.

Keep checking for updates.

fleece and kids

I have received my histograms back from Yocom McColl, with positive results. Histograms were done on all our 2 and 3 year old does and bucks. 36 in all. This means that we have an unbiased assessment of the quality fiber each animal is producing. This will help in our breeding program which means you will be able to have confidence in the animals you select for your herd.
Which brings us to kidding time. We are one week away from the first due dates. Looking forward to all those bundles of joy. There is nothing quite like having a bunch of little baby goats to fill your day with laughter and amazement. I find it interesting how we call our human children 'kids'  and how much the similarities in their antics are to the goat  kids. Whoever applied that expression to human children must have had goats as well.

fleece

Samples from our 2 and 3 year old goats have been taken. They are being sent out today to Yocom McColl for histogram testing. Check back in about 2 weeks for results. (Hopefully)

A new year

This is the second week of January and I am heavily into combing fleeces. So far they are looking real good, with more volume than last year and less guard hair. As soon as they are done, we will be sending away samples for a histogram on all our 2 & 3 year olds. We will post some pics soon.
We are looking forward to a bumper crop of kids, starting in mid February. Reserve yours early for best selection. Willie is busy making additional stalls to house them all for their first few days of life.
